Le Roy business owners press board on Main Street 15‑minute spots; trustees to consult NYSDOT

Concerns about downtown parking dominated discussion during official considerations at the Village of Le Roy Board of Trustees’ Oct. 7 meeting. Trustee James Bonacquisti asked how many 15‑minute parking signs had been installed on Main Street; Mayor Gregory Rogers responded that "there were 3, but there were only supposed to be 2." Bonacquisti objected to perceived favoritism in placing short‑term parking.

Matt Walther and his wife, Kelsey, owners of BeyonDriven Fitness at 66 Main St., told the board they have lost customers and that parking is integral to a business’s location; the transcript records that they said they have "over 400 clients but have lost many over the years due to the parking situation." The Walthers said they did not ask for help and that it was unfair to favor one business over another.

Mayor Rogers said the owners of Henry’s Deli had not approached the board and noted the State Department of Transportation can veto changes because Main Street is a state highway. The board instructed DPW Supervisor Robert Lathan to reach out to NYSDOT about realigning spaces at the end of Main Street; if DOT approves, the village will keep one 15‑minute sign for one year and then review the arrangement.

Trustees also discussed improvements to Bacon Street municipal lot to make it more inviting and short‑term infrastructure items such as additional lighting and winter salting. Trustee Richard Tetrault reported an EV charging station proposal would require a $2,500 down payment and said he wanted more feedback from other municipalities before proceeding.
