Wastewater facility upgrades cited as handling heavy rainfall; superintendent approved for WEFTEC trip

DPW Superintendent Robert Lathan reported that the new building at the wastewater treatment facility is up, noting "the steel for the inside was delivered, and the insulation bought." Mayor Gregory Rogers said recent improvements to the plant helped it handle about 3 inches of rain without the influent flow problems it experienced previously: "Normal flow was about 400,000 gallons but when we got a lot of rain, the flow could spike to 600,000 gallons overnight and cause problems. However, with all the improvements to the plant in the last few years, when we received 3” of rainfall last weekend, the system adjusted itself."
Separately, the board approved a resolution allowing WWTF Superintendent Steven Carroll to attend the WEFTEC Conference & Expo in New Orleans, Oct. 5–9; the motion was seconded and passed with votes recorded in the minutes (Trustee Tetrault — Aye; Trustee Bonacquisti — Aye; Mayor Rogers — Aye). The board also discussed ongoing WWTF capital work, including recent delivery of building materials and site progress; the meeting did not authorize additional WWTF capital spending beyond previously authorized items.
