"Now therefore I, Mark Downs, deputy mayor of the city of Morgantown, on behalf of the Morgantown City Council, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, 08/05/2026 as national night out," Downs read during the meeting.
In his report, the city manager reiterated thanks to staff and community partners and said the city has scheduled oaths of office for a couple of police officers "on August 20 at noon," noting progress in recruitment and academy attendance. The manager also said staff are working with Catholic Charities, United Way and Morgantown Community Resources on planning for a warming shelter location at Hazel's House of Hope and expected a decision at an upcoming board meeting. The clerk and council members also recognized volunteers and community groups involved with National Night Out.
