County finance staff told the board on Aug. 4 that timber excise tax receipts are now estimated at roughly $1.2 million, down from the budgeted $1.7 million, creating an estimated $500,000 shortfall for the Current Expense fund. Chief Deputy Treasurer and Investment Officer Marissa Longtain noted the county carries an outstanding $50,000 loan from 2025 and anticipates needing about $1 million more in short-term borrowing in September to cover cashflow for Current Expense.
Treasurer Tammy Peterson and Auditor Nicci Bergseng attended the Finance Committee report. Officials discussed upcoming timber sales and the status of Encumbered Lands funding as context for revenue projections. No formal borrowing motion was recorded at the Aug. 4 meeting; the report presented projections and planning information to the board.
