Lund advances Main Street flag project, seeks $1,600 for solar lights

Chairman Lorin Peacock told the Lund Town Council the Main Street flag project is moving forward and that Kelvin Christensen has finished installing new flag poles.
"The flag project for Main Street is moving forward," Peacock said, and the council identified 39 solar lights needed to illuminate flags at an estimated $40 per light, for a total of about $1,600. Peacock said the cost could come from either the miscellaneous fund or the town beautification fund and that he will check prices at Bath Lumber. Katie Carter will look into purchasing the flags online.
Council members also discussed replacing ropes, snaps and clips on the flag poles at the cemetery and the Community Center. The council proposed two 3x5 flags (Main Street and Community Center) and one 4x6 flag for the cemetery, and committed to sponsoring flags for Veterans on Memorial Day. Peacock noted the town should budget for roughly 200 flags each year and discussed using specific war flags to memorialize veterans if illumination proves difficult.
Next steps: Peacock will return with price checks from Bath Lumber, Katie Carter will research vendors for flags, and Moroni Perez will buy replacement hardware for the poles.
