During the public hearing on the Crew Car Wash project, nearby resident Paul Biernet asked the commission to preserve a boulder wall that runs through the apartment development near the site and to avoid replacing it with a low‑quality retaining wall. He urged ongoing noise monitoring and additional landscaping to reduce sound echoes up the hill.
“I requested that the wall not be replaced with a cheap retaining wall,” Biernet said. Mary Matthews told commissioners that an existing bright light from a neighboring Savers store already shines into her home and expressed concern about available space for queuing on 47th Avenue, vehicle sizes and ice on the hill after winter storms; she asked staff to confirm parcel boundaries and maintenance responsibilities. Staff responded with clarifications about the right‑of‑way and pre‑construction coordination with the developer, and commissioners noted conditions addressing lighting and site circulation in the draft approval.
