Garden Club delivers 286-signature petition asking Le Roy to designate Wiss Lot permanent green space

Kathy Weber and Nikki Calhoun of the Town & Country Garden Club presented a petition at the Oct. 16 Board workshop seeking a formal designation of the Wiss Lot as permanent green space. The petition, the minutes show, carried 286 signatures and asked that the area be preserved from future development without community consent.
Mayor Gregory Rogers thanked the Garden Club for its work, said the request is laudable and that it may require a public hearing and a formal vote, and said he would consult Village Attorney Jake Whiting and inform the Garden Club when he has guidance. Trustee William Kettle said he supports the Club’s effort but acknowledged legal issues that will need to be addressed. The Board did not schedule a hearing at the workshop.
