Laurens board approves new hires, ESY staff and substitute lists
Summary
The board approved probationary and provisional hires (including Kayla Welsh and Lynda Rathbun), approved substitute teacher appointments, and set ESY summer program staffing and schedule (July 7–Aug 15, 2025).
The board approved several personnel items affecting the 2024–2026 and summer 2025 staffing rosters. Kayla Welsh was approved as a probationary Elementary Teacher with a retroactive start date of Sept. 1, 2023 and an annual salary of $43,660; the board also provisionally appointed Lynda Rathbun as Deputy District Treasurer effective June 9, 2025 with a pro-rated annual salary of $50,000.
The consent agenda included appointments of extracurricular advisors and coaches for the 2025–26 school year and a list of substitutes for 2024–25. For the Extended School Year special education program, Lori Peck was appointed as the ESY teacher for a program running July 7–Aug. 15, 2025, 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., and teacher aides were appointed with hourly rates calculated from 2025–26 salaries.
Motions to approve these personnel actions were carried unanimously (4-0-0). The minutes note statutory guidance about how tenure eligibility is determined by performance ratings when relevant to probationary appointments.
