Golf pro outlines equipment backlog, improvement plans and donor green proposal

At the March 21 meeting Randy Long, the White Pine County Golf Pro, presented a list of equipment needs and improvement plans for the White Pine County Golf Course. Long identified required items including a greens mower, spray rig, utility cart and extra reels for the mower; he said a reel grinder was ordered and that a reel mower is likely subject to a two-year backorder. Long also said Dri-jet service is scheduled for June.
Long told the board he had met with County Manager Mike Wheable, who Long said is "on board" to help with many of the course improvements. Long said the Men's Golf Club has pledged funds to create a Donor Green to provide turf for patching greens and to serve as a practice green. He also discussed pursuing conservation grants for ponds and waterways, and reported the new well project is at a standstill because surveying could not be completed due to snow. Two maintenance golf carts were ordered, Long said, as part of current equipment procurement.
