Hunter board backs $1.25 million NYS DOS grant application for shared regional community and municipal service center

The Town of Hunter Board on Jan. 14 authorized Supervisor Sean Mahoney to submit an application for the New York State Department of State Local Government Efficiency (LGE) Grant Program seeking up to $1,250,000 to construct a shared regional community and municipal service center. Councilman Ernest Reale offered Resolution #1 of 2025 and Councilman Dolph Semenza seconded the motion; the measure passed unanimously (Ayes 5, Noes 0).

The resolution identifies the Town of Hunter, Village of Tannersville, Village of Hunter, Hunter–Tannersville Central School District and Greene County as project partners and lists program components that would be eligible for funding: a new regional municipal facility with large community gathering space and meeting hall; an expanded highway department with a regional municipal garage and school bus repair facility; a climate-resilient countywide heating-and-cooling center and emergency shelter; a shared fuel depot; relocation of the Village of Tannersville Department of Public Works facility out of the floodplain; and new fire facilities for the Town and partner jurisdictions.

Program rules cited in the resolution state the LGE program can provide $250,000 per partner up to a $1,250,000 maximum and requires a 10% local match. The Town committed up to $138,889 in local matching funds over the next two to five years as part of the authorization. The board recorded its approval after the formal motion and a roll-call vote.
