The Town of Hunter Board on Nov. 26 voted to obligate the remainder of the town’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds as a down payment on a new ambulance and to support capital planning for the town campus.
Supervisor Sean Mahoney moved to obligate the remaining ARPA funds for a down payment on a new ambulance and capital costs surrounding the town campus; the motion was seconded by Councilman Dolph Semenza and approved unanimously (Ayes 4, Noes 0, Absent 1). Mahoney noted that $25,000 and $100,000 from Greene County had already been obligated for the Kaaterskill Rail Trail and professional services for highway garage/town hall planning, and proposed that $132,000 of town funds be used to obtain specifications for a replacement ambulance.
The board asked Ambulance Administrator Ariel Woolheater to begin obtaining specifications for a new ambulance so the purchase can proceed once funds are obligated. "Supervisor Mahoney makes a MOTION to obligate the remainder of the Town ARPA funds for a down payment on a new ambulance and capital costs surrounding the town campus," the minutes record. The motion passed 4–0 with one member absent.
The vote commits local ARPA dollars ahead of the federal obligation deadline of Dec. 31, 2024; the board did not specify a vendor or final purchase price in the meeting record. Next steps recorded in the minutes include staff work to develop vehicle specifications and using obligated funds as the down payment on procurement.
