District says Aug. 18 band‑room ceiling smoldering triggered fire response; repairs authorized

Superintendent Merritt Holly reported the district responded to a fire alarm at the elementary band room on Aug. 18. "The fire alarm went off at approximately 5:11 p.m.," he said, and staff located smoldering insulation in the band‑room ceiling; multiple local fire departments — Le Roy, Pavilion, Caledonia, Stafford and Bergen — assisted in the response.
Mr. Holly said firefighters cut a hole to access the smoldering area and applied water without disturbing a recently installed roof. Insurance adjusters and fire investigators inspected the scene and have submitted reports to the district's insurance company; insurance has authorized repairs and will assess responsibility for related costs. The board was told the band will rehearse on the Memorial Auditorium stage until the band room is repaired and Campus Construction approves reopening of the gym.
