Neighbors urge noise ordinance after Skippers Landing ramps up live music

At its Aug. 6 meeting, the Town of Huron Planning Board heard from resident Lori Porray, who said she lives full-time at 7049 Lake Bluff Road and asked the board to address loud live music at nearby Skippers Landing. Porray told the board the restaurant "has evolved from a business focused on waterfront dining to a business where music is heavily promoted" and said the music is "impacting residents’ ability to enjoy their property on the Bay."
Porray told the board that while neighbors "acknowledge that they have a family and need to make money to support them," the weekend performances — from solo acts to rock bands — have sometimes been excessively loud. Margaret VanGee, identified as one of the future owners of Skippers Landing, told the board that owners have asked bands to turn down their volume and expressed concern about what she described as neighbors "harassing the staff." Chairman Alexandra Welsh said that if anyone fears threats that is a separate issue and not one the Planning Board can resolve at the meeting. The board did not vote on a noise ordinance or take formal enforcement action during the session.
