Planning staff told the commission that planning permit activity in Piedmont fell sharply in November 2025, with 12 planning applications submitted compared with 39 in July and 48 in August. Staff said six November planning submissions were expedited, three were director‑level and one required Planning Commission review.
Staff also reported a busy pace of building permits: roughly 72 building permit applications were submitted in the recent reporting period and the city approved about 80 building permits; many of those were for residential solar installations and remodels. Staff noted that neighboring Alameda County jurisdictions reported similar declines in planning applications, and said the reasons are not fully clear. Commissioners had no substantive public comment on the report and moved on to the first regular calendar item.
