The board approved a new student technical theater internship program designed to expand CTE opportunities by teaching students backstage skills such as lighting, sound and stage design. Staff described the program as an extension of an existing drama/production class: students enroll in class, complete required training hours and may then take paid internship shifts under supervision when additional technical coverage is needed for productions.
Finance and program staff said the program is expected to be low-cost to start, use existing theater staff for supervision and may be offset in part by rental income from productions. The motion to approve the internship passed unanimously, 5-0.
