Hudson Falls allocates $55,000 for used fire truck purchase, contingent on permissive referendum

The Village of Hudson Falls Board of Trustees voted July 14 to allocate $55,000 from the equipment reserve account to purchase a used 2000 HME Smeal fire truck for the Hudson Falls Volunteer Fire Department, contingent on any requirements arising from a permissive referendum and public hearing. The motion was moved by Trustee Daniel Hogan, seconded by Trustee James Gallagher and carried unanimously.
Fire Department personnel described the need to replace Engine E362, which has a stainless-steel water tank that "has rusted through" and has multiple cracks, so it was taken out of service. Fire Chief Katie Bover said the replacement is a 750-gallon tank truck comparable to current equipment and that the slightly shorter chassis will fit better in the shop. Attorney Bill Nikas told the board they may approve the purchase, schedule a public hearing, and cancel if required by referendum rules.
