Public urges coordination between water and planning departments; Board defers draft letter
Summary

A public speaker on July 16 urged the Board to push county planning bodies to factor water supply into long-range planning.
Dick Mayer told the Board that "it's important that the Board is taking the initiative to break the tradition" of limited coordination among the Water Department, the Planning Department and other county departments, and he urged regular communication and collaboration—especially for projects such as the South Maui Community Plan and proposed wells affecting the Kamole Aquifer. Mayer said there has been "very little emphasis in the planning process" by advisory groups and the Planning Commission on water implications.
Because the meeting lacked a quorum, the agenda item to approve a draft letter to the Planning Department was deferred. Chair Inouye-Nohara said the Board would take up items that do not require action and moved approval of the minutes and the draft letter to the end of the agenda; with no quorum those items were again deferred to the next meeting.
