Resident urges Town of Hunter to impose temporary moratorium on indoor cannabis grow facilities

At the public-comment portion of the Town Board workshop, resident Marcia Johnson presented a written statement urging local officials to enact a temporary moratorium on indoor commercial cannabis grow facilities until the town can determine appropriate siting and regulations.
"we need to, at the very least, implement a temporary moratorium on this type of development, so that we can figure out whether this type of industry belongs on the Mountain Top, in Hunter, and if so, where it should be placed," Johnson said in the statement provided to the board. She referenced a 2014 report she supplied and outreach to other towns that imposed moratoria while drafting local rules. Johnson acknowledged potential tax revenue but warned that large warehouse-style buildings and attendant odor, light and noise could harm tourism and the area's natural character.
The minutes show Johnson's statement was offered to the Planning Board and the Town Board but the workshop did not include a board motion to impose a moratorium.
