Staff described a December pop-up outreach program at Linda Park, Crocker, Dracaena and Piedmont Park that included park commissioners, consultants from WRT, and public-works staff. The outreach included informal conversations with park users, distribution of free native plants, and targeted interviews with maintenance staff and the landscape contractor. "We had over 300 people respond," the presenter said, and noted the consultant will present summary findings and raise questions for commissioners at the February meeting.
Commissioners recommended publicizing early survey findings to encourage further participation and discussed how staff presence in parks fosters dialogue. They also flagged topics for consultant attention such as electrification of maintenance equipment, reducing nonfunctional turf, and neighborhood uses (dog owners, young families). Staff said written comments received at the meeting would be forwarded to the consultant for inclusion in the summary.
