Kevin Denton, Superintendent of Highways, reported increased material usage this winter because of ice and advised the board that salt expenditures have outpaced typical years. He said culvert replacement on Hale Hill is proceeding with an on-site meeting set for Jan. 27 and projected construction around June with required bypasses and tree clearing.
Denton said crews expect to finish Moss Road after a bridge replacement and that CHIPS funding will cover the first part of Reber Road work; he also flagged a $236,000 FEMA award for Jay Mountain Road that expires on Feb. 28, 2026. Supervisor Pierce said he is working on an extension for the FEMA award. Council members discussed blacktopping and maintenance considerations; Denton said paving over dirt is easier to maintain in some cases.
