Town of Lewis prelim budget stays under tax cap; workshop and public hearing scheduled

Supervisor James Monty reported to the Town of Lewis Board that the preliminary budget remains under the New York State tax cap. Monty said the board will hold a budget workshop on Oct. 22, 2024 at 6:30 PM and a public hearing on the budget on Nov. 7, 2024 at 7:00 PM.
Monty also referenced the New York State Comptroller's fiscal stress score for the town as 6.7 and stated the town is "in good shape" based on that metric. The board did not take a final vote on the budget at the Oct. 8 meeting; the workshop and public hearing will be the next steps in the budget process.
