The Glynn County Board of Education voted to approve ESE telehealth mental-health services for fiscal year 2027, a program district staff said will be covered by a Georgia Department of Education grant and will not require local funding.
Miss Hayward, the district staff member who presented the item, told the board the service is intended to avoid interruptions in student care and reduce the need for parents to remove students from class for appointments. "For the 24 25, 26 school year, we were able to serve 1,109 students, 1,109 actual visits throughout the year," she said, adding that this represented about three times the prior year's usage.
In response to board questions, Miss Hayward said the service is available in all Glynn County schools, that each school provides a designated space and that the vendor supplies specific Chromebooks for telehealth sessions. She confirmed parents may join telehealth sessions when appropriate.
The presenter said the requested $98,000 for FY27 will be paid through grant funds and "it will not be a cost to the district in terms of any local funding." After discussion, the motion to approve the telehealth services was moved and seconded (second by Mr. McBay) and the board recorded the motion as approved.
The decision keeps the district's telehealth mental-health program in place for the coming year; presenters asked the board to return the item to the agenda for local-funding consideration only if grant support lapses.
