Tiverton approves Veolia contract for sewer cleaning and CCTV; town share about $84,004

The council approved a contract to Veolia for sewer cleaning, CCTV inspection and manhole work following a joint RFP conducted with the Tiverton Wastewater District.
Mark Nemorowski, executive director of the Tiverton Wastewater District, told the council the RFP attracted five bids and the recommended award is a unit-price contract that allows the town and district to proceed without separate solicitations for change orders. He said the combined bid covered town-owned interceptor segments and wastewater-district assets; staff presented an estimate of the town's portion.
“The town portion would be $84,004.48 and 38¢,” Nemorowski said, reading the estimated share. He and district engineers explained the contract is bid at unit prices (linear feet, manholes) and that final costs could vary depending on field conditions and the extent of heavy cleaning or root cutting necessary.
Councilors asked about scope, owner responsibilities and frequency of maintenance; wastewater staff said an initial cleaning and cameraing will inform a rotating maintenance plan and estimated the system could be fully assessed within roughly five years. The council moved and seconded approval of the contract; the motion passed with the vote called in open session.
