The USD #505 Chetopa-St. Paul Board of Education convened on Aug. 10 in St. Paul and moved through routine business, including approval of the agenda and consent items and several personnel and funding actions.
Shelby Spielbusch moved to approve the agenda and later moved approval of the consent agenda, both motions seconded by Brock Aday and adopted 5-0. Superintendent Bobbi Williams reported that SEK Interlocal negotiations were settled with a 2.3% increase and presented technology and principals' reports on subscription renewals and projected enrollment. Williams recommended that the district "continue with the existing plan and use reserves to enter the pool and mitigate risk" regarding a new health insurance premium; the board took no action because no plan change was proposed.
The board accepted a Safe and Secure Schools Grant in the amount of $2,415 to be applied toward the purchase and installation of hard drives; the motion was made by Shelby Spielbusch, seconded by Maggy Robison and passed 5-0. The minutes record the associated hardware purchase amount as $6,300. The board also approved a transfer of $1,203.60 into the food service fund to address low paid student lunches (moved by Maggy Robison, seconded by Barbara Evans, passed 5-0).
Under K.S.A. 75-4319 the board entered a brief executive session to discuss non-elected personnel matters. On return, the board approved hiring Casey Minor as a full-time custodian and Matt O'Hara and Tim Strasser as full-time route drivers contingent on completion of required training and licensing; that motion passed 5-0. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
