The Lewiston-Porter Board of Education voted on Nov. 25 to accept a set of policy updates and to delete one policy after waiving a second reading.
President Danielle M. Mullen moved to accept the first-reading policies, including Policy 3421 (Title IX and Sex Discrimination) and Policy 5840 (Artificial Intelligence). The motion, seconded by Trustee Jack G. Waugaman III, carried 4-0. At second reading the board accepted Policies 7100 (Elementary and Secondary Students: General), 7110 (Comprehensive Student Attendance Policy), 7111 (Early Release of Students from School), 7120 (Age of Entrance), 7121 (Diagnostic Screening of Students), 7555 (Educational Services for Married/Pregnant Students) and 7554 (Equal Educational Opportunities); that motion also carried 4-0.
Separately, the board voted to waive a second reading—and thereby delete—Policy 8130, "Equal Educational Opportunities," under the waiver provision in Board Policy #1410. The deletion was moved by Mullen and seconded by Tessa Connelly and was approved 4-0. The board recorded these actions as NA-1 (first reading acceptances), NA-2 (waive and delete), and NA-3 (second-reading acceptances).
