School officials highlight drop in chronic absenteeism, cell-phone rule and call for years-ahead school planning

The presenter described a stricter cell‑phone policy in effect during the school day and cited successes in discipline counts, and noted use of Virginia Literacy Act funds and other grants to provide tutoring that will expire next year. They also urged the board to begin long-range planning for a new school now—"it's a 5 to 7 year process"—because the elementary school is at instructional capacity and population growth is anticipated in nearby development areas.
