Police Chief David Pernice reviewed department activity and training at the Aug. 13 meeting. He reported 269 calls from June 1 through Aug. 13 — an average of roughly 3.63 calls per day — and said call types included vehicle pursuits, protection-from-abuse orders, warrants, domestic disturbances, drug activity, vandalism, burglary, homelessness-related responses and recent incidents involving suicide or mental-health crises. Chief Pernice noted that some incidents can occupy an entire shift, citing one domestic call that lasted from about 8:50 PM until 2:00 AM.
The chief said he and Officer Shelly attended an Alert Active Shooter training July 24–25 hosted by Millcreek Police Department, and that he applied to and received Union City Community Foundation funding for four tasers and for security cameras to cover additional sections of North Main Street. Council noted appreciation for the training and the foundation support.
