New library director outlines scaled-back plan and fundraising push for Deborah Rawson expansion

Abbey Heimlich, the new director of the Deborah Rawson Memorial Library, gave the Selectboard an update on the library expansion project on Aug. 6. The library has held well-attended outreach meetings in Jericho and Underhill and commissioned a feasibility study that found fundraising and donor relationships must be the focus going forward. Heimlich said, "They found that they need to focus on fundraising and building donor relationships." The team will scale back the original plan and timeline to reduce the size of any bond and will pursue community outreach and a fundraising committee.
Heimlich told the board the library does not want to compete with the Jericho Town Library for donations and will coordinate with business and community leaders and the project architect while developing fundraising strategies and a revised timetable. The Selectboard did not take action but heard the update and will monitor next steps.
