Cedartown reports $7.19 million in transportation grants; performing arts center demolition nearing completion

City Manager Edward Guzman reported to the commission that the City of Cedartown received four transportation-related grants totaling $7,190,000: a $1,000,000 congressional appropriation for Davis Road; $1,550,000 from the Rural & Tribal Program for South Main; $4,000,000 from Safe Streets for All (North Main & East Ave/Wissahickon Ave); and $640,000 in Transportation Alternatives for South Main.
Guzman said this is the largest amount of grant funding the city has been awarded in one fiscal year and staff will prepare a press release outlining each program’s scope. He also reported that the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission was awarded $1.5 million in an EPA coalition grant and that some of that funding will be allocated to Cedartown for environmental studies of potentially contaminated sites. Separately, demolition work at the Cedartown Performing Arts Center is progressing and the general contractor expects demolition to be finished in the next couple of weeks.
