Tree talks and Localscapes well attended; committee eyes outreach to reduce rock-only yards

Committee members said Michelle reported about 30 people attended each of the Localscapes and Tree Talk events and recommended continuing biannual classes in spring and fall.
"Guesting attendance was about 30 at each of those," the Chair said. Members praised presenters and discussed promoting Localscapes and collecting photos of good residential examples for outreach. One member said rock-only landscapes create heat and other problems, arguing education will change resident behavior more effectively than enforcement alone: "it does make everything around it so much hotter," a committee member said when describing comparisons between rock and planted yards.
Members discussed partnerships with Jordan Valley Conservancy District and utilities for rebates and asked staff to explore whether Localscapes formally accepts partnerships. The committee agreed to plan a spring Tree Talk focused on pruning timing and to assemble photos and sample yards to illustrate benefits of planting.
