Board places $415-per-pupil referendum question on Nov. 3 ballot

The Litchfield Public School District board adopted a resolution July 20 to place a referendum revenue authorization on the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot that would increase general education revenue by $415 per adjusted pupil unit (the ballot will shorten the phrase to "$415 per pupil"). The authorization would run for 10 years beginning with taxes payable in 2027 and would increase annually by the rate of inflation as calculated under Minnesota Statutes.
The resolution says the additional revenue will be used to finance school operations, and that the property tax portion would require an estimated referendum tax rate of approximately 0.046324% of the referendum market value of the district for taxes payable in 2027. Member Marcia Provencher moved the resolution; it passed on a roll-call vote with all five members present voting Aye.
Board materials direct the clerk to mail required notice to taxpayers and to include the statutorily required projections and statements in the mailed notice between 15 and 45 days before the election. The resolution also requires a public meeting to discuss the Commissioner of Education's Review and Comment when applicable.
