Fire Chief told the council the department handled 57 calls for service in July and commended Firewatch volunteers and sheriff's assistance during the July 4 period. He said the 2026 brush-clearance season began May 1 and will conclude April 30, 2027, and that approximately 165 inspections have been completed to date, 66 in July alone.
Councilmembers asked about the status of newly purchased brush-clearance software and whether the department had the staffing and tools to carry out notifications and inspections; staff confirmed activation and noted a significant reduction in software costs. Council directed staff to give homeowners advance notice to remove overburden or offer contractor removal with the cost billed to the property owner when appropriate.
