Residents urge Placentia to create alert system, end local cooperation with ICE

She urged the council to pursue partnerships that would notify residents via text, email or apps and to consider programs to support families affected by enforcement actions. Other commenters, including Michael Hernandez, Crystal Perfecto and Leticia Palafox, described fear after recent local raids and called on the council to make clear whether local police share information with ICE and to limit any cooperation that deters crime reporting.
Speakers described both personal experiences and historical context for that fear. Michael Hernandez recalled local history and said laborers who built the city have been repeatedly displaced; Crystal Perfecto said videos of recent enforcement actions feel like a "war zone" and she asked for more protective steps. Leticia Palafox, a 47‑year resident, told the council: "We should not be participating in a system that separates families, targets immigrants, or forces people to live in fear."
The council did not adopt a policy at this meeting; several council members thanked speakers and noted they would take the concerns under advisement and consider next steps, including requests for inter-jurisdictional coordination and a possible study session or further staff follow-up.
