Placentia honors five years of local Fire and Life Safety Department

Placentia Mayor Kevin Kerwin and the City Council on July 1 recognized the fifth anniversary of the Placentia Fire and Life Safety Department, praising the department for its growth and community service since it was established on July 1, 2020.
Fire Chief Dobyn told the council the department grew from a small team into a multi-division organization covering suppression, fire prevention and administration. "Five years ago, our department began as a small but determined team with a single mission to protect and serve our community with courage, professionalism and heart," he said. The chief presented commemorative five-year challenge coins for council members, distributed badges to staff and showed a short video celebrating the department's work.
Representatives from state and county offices — including Carlos Schwartz for State Senator Stephen Choi, Newton Vienkou for Assemblymember Philip Chen and Paulette Chaffee for Orange County's 4th District — offered congratulations and presented certificates. The council also read a formal proclamation recognizing the department's milestone and dated the recognition July 1, 2025.
No public opposition was recorded for the celebration items. The recognition was followed by group photographs and brief remarks noting the department's role in emergency response and community engagement.
