At the June 1 meeting Dr. Woodcock presented a brief data dip on student activities and attendance. He reported that 72% of students in grades 7–12 participate in at least one activity and that almost 50% participate in more than one.
Dr. Woodcock said the initial measurement focused on clubs with stipends and athletics and that the district will extend audits to informal high-school clubs and fine-arts participation to better capture total engagement. He emphasized the next step is to study the group of students not involved to understand barriers and noted several student-sourced suggestions to boost participation, including shorter after-school bus rides, more intramural/recreational offerings, better club scheduling and a morning beverage option (a student-described "coffee bar" or "Grama refresher") to incentivize arrival and first-period engagement.
Board members and the superintendent agreed to continue data collection next year to refine measures and pursue practical adjustments to transportation and scheduling where feasible.
