District reports 104 UPK spots; 85 filled, orientation set for May

Superintendent Dr. DeKalb gave the board an update on universal prekindergarten (UPK) enrollment and placement for the coming school year.
"We have 104 total spots available in JD. So far, there are 85 spots filled, 19 spots still open, so we do not have a wait list to have availability," Dr. DeKalb said, adding that placements have been communicated and an orientation will be held in May. She noted that not every family received first‑choice placements but the district has capacity to accommodate registered students.
Separately, Mr. Bartlett touched on proposed state changes that would increase UPK per‑pupil funding in the one‑house proposals; those are pending final state action and could affect district budget planning. The board received the enrollment update and the administration will proceed with family outreach and the planned orientation.
