Three candidates introduce themselves in run for Jamesville-DeWitt Board of Education
Summary
Three candidates — Andrew Nolan, Dominic D'Imperio and David (Dave) Abakan — introduced themselves at the May 11 meeting. The board introduced three people who filed nominating petitions to fill three open seats on the Jamesville-DeWitt Board of Education.
Andrew Nolan said he is a longtime educator who has served as a high-school English teacher, elementary and high-school principal and currently works as an assistant superintendent; he said he and his wife are raising two boys in DeWitt and that he wants to listen and learn from community members. "My name is Andrew Nolan. I'm a a long time educator," he told the board.
Dominic D'Imperio said he and his wife moved to the district in 2018 and that he practices law as a school attorney and labor-relations specialist advising school districts across Central and Northern New York; he framed his candidacy as a way to give back to the community. "I currently practice law as a school attorney and labor relations specialist advising a number of school districts across Central And Northern New York," he said.
Dave Abakan (who said he has served one term on the board) described his 28 years in education and his current role as a full-time union president in North Syracuse, and noted work on the board’s audit, finance and policy committees. "I'm Dave Abakan. I've been on the board now for 3 years, just 1 term," he said.
The three candidates will appear on the May 19 ballot; voters will elect the three candidates who receive the most votes to three-year terms ending June 30, 2029.
