Engineering: nesting surveys underway; dredging pushed to fall pending permits

Sarah Hassan Johnson, director of engineering, briefed the committee on the department’s construction-season preparations and environmental compliance work. "We are doing nesting surveys through the West Shore Trail at present in advance of construction," Johnson said, adding that the department is complying with permit conditions ahead of planned work.
Johnson said the dredging project has not been bid and that permitting constraints mean dredging cannot start until the fall. "Earliest we can dredge per the permits is November," she said; staff expect to put the project out to bid in June. Johnson also noted that boat-ramp and campground openings are being coordinated with seasonal conditions and runoff forecasts.
