Police chief reports Mill Street speed sign, sewer-plant trespassing and winter parking enforcement

Police Chief Small updated the Village Board on a range of public-safety issues during the Dec. 1 meeting. He said the Mill Street speed study was completed and a sign was installed to address speeding; the department will monitor for complaints. Chief Small also reported ongoing trespassing and theft at the wastewater treatment plant and has posted notices on Facebook warning residents that the facility is not for dumping or taking resources; he said stronger enforcement measures may follow if incidents continue.
Chief Small provided other operational updates: a complaint about chickens and a loose dog was followed up with contact to the owner and no further complaints; the police department purchased a new computer for $1,092.01 and expects to recover about $550 by selling old equipment, reducing the effective cost. He also noted recent calls including a domestic peace complaint, geese on Mill Street, and a noise complaint at an apartment building. The department will begin winter parking enforcement, issuing citations for vehicles not moved within 48 hours.
Board members did not vote on enforcement policy changes at the meeting but noted the chief will handle animal and noise complaints under current ordinances and that parking enforcement is seasonal procedure.
