Bloomington board approves permanent speed sign on Mill Street after speed study

After a Delta 3‑presented speed study showed higher speeds entering town at Mill Street north, the board voted unanimously to install a permanent speed sign on Mill Street from Fair Grounds Road to help slow traffic.
Village President Robert McLimans said the board approved installing a permanent speed sign on Mill Street after the police department presented study results showing higher speeds entering the village.
"Chief Small recommended installing the speed sign on the north end coming into Bloomington from Fair Grounds Road to help slow traffic," the police chief told the board, noting the installation would be permanent rather than the portable trailer currently used. The study found over 2,600 of 3,026 northbound vehicles at the Mill Street South location traveled at or below 25 mph, while southbound traffic had more vehicles in the 26–35 mph range.
A motion to install the sign was made by Dennis Moris and seconded by Chasity Allen; the motion passed with all members voting in favor. The board directed that the sign be placed just past the old school on the north approach to town.
