Police chief says contact lost with approved hire; council agrees to search for part-time officer

Police Chief David Pernice told council he has been unable to reach a candidate previously approved at an earlier meeting and is assuming that person is no longer interested. He said he will reach out to the consortium and schedule oral exams through the Civil Service Commission.
Pernice said there are "only 32 candidates on the list" and that he would ultimately like to hire two part-time officers even though only one part-time position was approved by council; Council agreed to search for one part-time officer. The chief said he will send out letters and pursue Civil Service oral exams.
