Jordan meeting: historian programs, murals, bench donations, Fall Festival prep and VJFD FEMA review

Village Historian Elaine Peters told trustees about activities from May 14 through Aug. 26, including headstone cleaning, history talks and walks, archeology digs and children’s programs; she announced events through December 2024.
Trustee Simko reported FastSigns advised replacing uneven signposts and presented quotes for eight cedar or Douglas fir posts. Simko also said historians from Jordan, Elbridge and the Town met Aug. 13 to discuss consolidating offices to improve collections and community access. Work has started on path lighting between North Main and North Hamilton and mural panels, with the first panel depicting "The Old Mill." Simko noted a friend of Trustee Stapleton offered to donate a canal rock and two marble benches; Simko and gardener Sharon Butts proposed one bench in front of Village Hall with a granite flower box and the other in a visitor area the mayor hopes to create.
Officer Healy said the police department is preparing for the Fall Festival. Mayor Brim reported the Volunteer Jordan Fire Department had a FEMA contract review that identified a penalty clause charging $100.00 a day; he said he has reached out to Colden Enterprises and is awaiting a response.
