Kathleen O’Brien, a Valley Drive resident, told the Village of Jordan Board on Sept. 9 that her basement has experienced recurring flooding since a June 2010 earthquake that she said created a "waterfall" in her backyard. She told trustees spring and the Thanksgiving period are the worst times for backups and that temporary fixes installed in 2011 included French drains and PVC piping; she has used as many as four sump pumps at once.
Superintendent Johnston and Frederick DiRisio have discussed possible solutions with O’Brien, and Hunter Springs (a contractor) is scheduled to inspect the property on Sept. 17, 2024 to evaluate rerouting the house pump line to a catch basin the village will install. Mayor Brim requested board approval to install a catch basin on Valley Drive with a cap of $5,000. Deputy Mayor Gustafson moved and Trustee Stapleton seconded the motion; all present voted in favor and the motion carried.
The board did not record detailed engineering plans or a construction schedule at the Sept. 9 meeting; DiRisio said he is preparing updates to the village’s water and sewer application for Brutus Road and continues to manage water operations.
