Yates County updates: hazardous-waste day, hires, culvert completion and broadband progress

Yates County Legislator Doug Paddock reported several county items of interest to Italy residents, including a Hazardous Waste/Electronics Collection Day on Sept. 13, 2025 and county personnel authorizations for emergency services, corrections and public health positions.
Paddock also said the county had circulated indemnification agreements for municipalities to review for the use of county equipment. He reported that a culvert installation on Italy Valley Road is complete, and paving is expected in September. On broadband, he said there were "25 customer orders in Middlesex with 6 customers connected" and that the county received a $7.4 million Connect All grant but faced a tight construction schedule and is pursuing additional grant opportunities.
Paddock reported RFPs had been issued for a public transportation provider (no responses) and for a construction manager for jail project changes. The county continues work on its 2026 budget and will hold a tax-foreclosure auction on Aug. 26, 2025.
