The Italy Town Board approved a revision to roofing-permit fees at its July 8 meeting after a recommendation from Code Enforcement Officer Chris Whipple. The new schedule sets residential roofs at $0.05 per square foot and commercial roofs at $0.10 per square foot; the motion passed unanimously.
Councilmember Malcolm Mac Kenzie said fees should reflect the amount of time required by the Code Enforcement Officer before the board settled on the cut. "Cost of permits should be relative to the amount of time required by the Code Enforcement Officer," Mac Kenzie said during discussion. Town staff were directed to update the fee schedule and publish it on the town website.
