Italy Town Board approves monthly abstracts, cuts roof-permit fees and places payment on hold

The Italy Town Board convened July 8 at Italy Town Hall and approved General Abstract #7 ($28,224.95), Highway Abstract #7 ($46,873.38) and FEMA Abstract #7 ($3,468.08) in a unanimous vote after motions from Councilmember Malcolm Mac Kenzie and second from Dave Ferry. Supervisor Richard Craig also reported that Lyons National Bank had confirmed deposits are FDIC-insured up to $250,000, with excess funds covered by third-party agreements.
The board voted to reduce roofing-permit fees after a recommendation from Code Enforcement Officer Chris Whipple. The new schedule sets residential roofing permits at $0.05 per square foot and commercial at $0.10 per square foot. Councilmember Malcolm Mac Kenzie said the board discussed tying fees to staff time and workload; he said the change was agreed "to cut the cost of roof permits in half." The board subsequently voted to contract with Lakeside Roofing for a new highway-garage roof after the Supervisor agreed to clarify final costs. At the meeting's end, the board voted 4-0 with one abstention (Nick Baranowski) to hold payment to Foundation Design pending further review of services and documentation.
