Superintendent lists audits, program expansions and mentoring launch at Little Flower meeting

Superintendent Harold Dean outlined several district priorities and updates during the Sept. 16 Little Flower Union Free School District Board of Education meeting.
Dean said consultants from Cullen & Danowski are on site this week for the 2023-24 external audit and that a full presentation by the firm is scheduled for November. He also told the board the district must complete a corrective action plan tied to findings from an ESSER desk review and noted that NYSED has approved a program modification to increase day-student capacity and expand the eligible age range for the program. Dean also identified an invitation from ESBOCES to participate in a learning-technology grant and reported the district received notice of a 21st Century Community Learning Center site visit.
Dean described a new mentoring initiative, stating the district had "launched our mentoring program with 140 mentor hours scheduled for this year." He said the district also plans to implement a non-voting student BOE member position beginning July 2025 to increase student voice on the board. The report included regional updates: Dean chaired the first SCSSA membership meeting as president and summarized key takeaways from the NYSSBA summer 2024 school law conference.
