County Administrator Jessica Mullins told the Finance Committee that work on the 2027 budget is underway: cooperating agencies have submitted about seven request forms that will be reviewed during the October budget workshop and department heads have finalized their requests in Munis. Mullins said staff are incorporating workers' compensation, election expenses and other line items into the draft budget.
Mullins also warned that health insurance costs may increase by about 10–15% and that retirement costs could rise owing to Tier 6 changes; she urged the committee to anticipate rising costs when reviewing line-by-line items. Separately, Mullins said the Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) audit is still in progress: auditors have extended beyond an initial 3–4 week estimate and the county expects them to remain all of August.
