Jack Ossent, a Penn Yan resident, used the public comment period at the Aug. 3 Yates County Public Works Committee meeting to press officials for access to a Bergman Associates report from 2018–2019 that he said was prepared with public funds.
Ossent said he has been unable to obtain a full copy through FOIL and that a version returned to a requester was mostly redacted. He asked committee members how many had read the report and whether those who had thought it should be redacted. "It doesn't meet his test of his definition of what transparency is," the resident said, arguing the limited disclosure falls short of the county's stated transparency goals.
Committee Chair Sarah Purdy heard the comment during the meeting's public comment section; the committee did not take action on the request at the session. The minutes and audio note the concern and the committee accepted the Buildings & Grounds report as information before proceeding to other agenda items. The transcript does not record a formal response or a vote on releasing additional material.
