CCE Yates announces soil‑health field day and legislative brunch, highlights local programs

Sandi Bastedo of Cornell Cooperative Extension Yates presented program updates and event details to the Government Operations Committee. She announced an Innovations in Soil Health Field Day on Aug. 19 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Martens Farm in Penn Yan that will cover agrivoltaics, biochar and other soil-health practices, sponsored by American Farmland Trust.
Bastedo also said CCE will host a Legislative Brunch on Sept. 9 in the Yates County Auditorium and noted ongoing outreach through Master Gardener programming, 4‑H youth development, and county agricultural collaborations. She mentioned local interest in an interview with Paige Hansen, inventor of buckwheat milk, which will include coverage referencing Penn Yan and CCE's involvement.
The committee accepted the report as information and noted CCE's county-appropriation request for 2027 will be included in future budget considerations.
